Oregon sheriff gives advice to gun owners

Rob Gordon, the sheriff in Washington County, Oregon, has issued a memo to people in the county who have concealed handgun licenses.

The memo suggests that these permit holders can request that a record of their concealed carry gun permit not be made public.

The reason Sheriff Gordon sent out the memo to the approximately 10,000 residents of the county who hold concealed carry permits is that in nearby Jackson County earlier this year, in the case of Tribune v. Winters, a judge ruled that contrary to what the sheriff of Jackson County believed, concealed carry permits are, under the Oregon Public Records Law, a matter of public record.
