#statebooks

I’ve added a sidebar link to #statebooks. This collection of tweets is a stream of useful commentary and links on state budgets, including issues surrounding state budget transparency.

If you like to read more orderly expositions of state budget issues than you can get at #statebooks, try Show Me The Spending. (It’s breaking news versus orderly exposition. Both are good!)

Show Me The Spending is about affirmative disclosure of state and local budgets. We have a long, long way to go to get that.

As you can see at the My Government Website project, most counties don’t practice affirmative website disclosure of their budgets.

Comparision of websites with respect to whether they provide an online budget is quite interesting. For example, there are 75 counties in Arkansas and for 96% of those counties, you can’t find a county budget online.
