State spending website reform in Washington state

Good news from Jason Mercier in the Evergreen State, where 48 members of the Washington Senate have voted to promote transparency in state spending by adopting a searchable state budget website.

Even though in other respects, there are open government problems in Washington, the more data that the government shares without anyone having to go to the trouble of filing an open records request, the better.

  1. This would be great. At the moment, I am simply trying to figure out how much each school spends in electricity each year, and how much has been budgeted this year. I can’t find this basic information anywhere! Any ideas?
